Ototo – 2023 – Ototo is still closed but you can enjoy their ramen at Sushi Den! The third restaurant dominating South Pearl by Toshi Kizaki. To make a reservation you will make a reservation at Izakaya. Izakaya is a Japanese “Gastro Pub” so sushi plus “world food” make this a hit for sushi lovers and non-sushi lovers.Ģ021 Update – Currently Sushi Den and Izakaya have combined into one restaurant – one menu – where you can be seated in either space. This South Pearl hot spot, by Chef Toshi Kizaki, dominates the block I mean he literally owns three restaurants and a parking lot on South Pearl. There is a nice collection of black velvet Elvis and other paintings above the bar My favorite was the Gene Simmons of KISS.Īdd the Highland Tavern to your list of MUST HAVES in Denver! You'll thank yourself.Sushi Den – This place has been packed every day since opening in 1984. Great food, Great service and an appealing friendly vibe that has many TV's to catch your favorite sporting events. I just might order a mug of it upon my return. But the pastrami au jus was the kicker of the deal. The brown mustard offered additional profile to this amazing sandwich, The hoagie roll was soft and white. Highlands pastrami slays these giants The pastrami was tender and moist with a balanced in flavor with black pepper and spices. I have had pastrami from the Carnegie Deli,& Katz's Deli in NYC and Slyman's in Cleveland. The house made pastrami was simply the best pastrami I have ever eaten. The Cowboy burger was as delicious as one could imagine in a tavern setting. The Italiano (Spicy capicola, salami, house ham, provolone, giardiniera, red wine vinegar mayo, lettuce, tomato, red onion, seved on a hoagie roll) or the Tavern Dip (house pastrami, provolone, brown mustard, crispy onions, served on a hoagie roll with pastrami au jus and a side french fries. I was deciding between two sandwiches and asked our server what she would recommend between the two. My son had the Cowboy burger (crispy onions, bacon, cheddar, bbq sauce) with a side of french fries. We started with world famous Tavern Tots! These tots are house made and are the best tater tot, ever! They were served with fresh and creamy ranch dipping sauce. As travelers, we were greeted and treated as if we were regulars from down the street. The bar area has changed and has expanded and the additional glass overhead door really lights up the area with daylight. Once featured Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Home of the world famous house made tavern tots. My boy and I were in Denver for the Misfits concert and had lunch here at the Highland Tavern. We lucked out, but at happy hour, good luck. The biggest issue is the lack of parking in that neighborhood. At 2 PM, the place was relatively empty and quiet, but we imagine that it could be quite loud when happy hour kicks. We found the beer selection to our liking and tried some new ones. The cabbage was crisp and fresh and the dressing had a little nip to it.also ranked among the best we've tasted in a good while. In addition to the tots, we got an order of excellent coleslaw, by a good karma accident. The Tavern Tots lived up to their reputation: Big, nicely fried and with a creamier-textured potato mixture on the inside than most others. up well to the messy stuff trapped inside them. The burger patties were thick, juicy, fresh and cooked to the requested level. The El Guapo, with some mild, sauteed Hatch green chiles, cheddar and pickled red onion, and the Boomer, with grilled mushrooms, grilled onions and brie, were absolutely delicious.
